How to Rank High on Google

Just did a “google vanity search” on myself and found to my surprise that my site is at number two in the search results. (Some guy from Copenhagen is beating me…)

Obviously, I am not the most well known Olof Olsson out there! (Believe it or not, but both Olof and Olsson are extremely common names in my home country Sweden.) It seems that Google is ranking me high due the key words (olof olsson) matching my domain name (olofolsson.com). Given that my site is fairly new and almost no one links to me, I can see no other explanation.

From a personal branding perspective, this obviously means that having your site name the same as your name makes a lot of sense. Go out and register your kids names before they are taken! (I have already done this.) They will thank you when they get older. You are extremely unlikely to find only the first name or last name being available, at least for .com and other global domains, however first name + last name combinations are surprisingly easy to get your hands on.

Funny. I know the “other guy from Copenhagen”, and found your site googling him :)
Cheers,

Small world!

As they say, if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound? Same thing with Google I guess, if you cannot be found on Google, do you exist? :-)
